Poetry: beautiful expression of Cucuta

Eduardo Cote Lamus (1928-1964), escritor y poeta

En 1952, Cote-Lemus fue ganador del Premio Internacional de Literatura con su libro Salvación del recuerdo. Nació en Cúcuta pero pasó su niñez en Pamplona.
En 1953 viajó a Escocia para ocupar durante unos meses el cargo de cónsul. 

 Al año siguiente, partió a Frankfurt (Alemania), donde vivió tres años como cónsul auxiliar de la Embajada de Colombia. En 1957 regresó a Colombia. Al año siguiente se casó con Alicia Baraibar y dio comienzo a una fulgurante carrera como estadista: secretario de Educación, representante a la Cámara, senador y gobernador de Norte de Santander. No había cumplido un año en este último cargo, cuando murió en un accidente automovilístico, la noche del 3 de agosto de 1964.

In 1952, Cote-Lemus won the International Literature Prize with his book Salvation from Memory. He was born in Cúcuta but spent his childhood in Pamplona.

In 1953 he travelled to Scotland for a few months as consul.

The following year, he left Frankfurt (Germany), where he lived for three years as auxiliary consul of the Colombian Embassy. In 1957 he returned to Colombia. The following year he married Alicia Baraibar and began a brilliant career as a statesman: Secretary of Education, representative to the House, senator and governor of Norte de Santander. He had not served a year in this last post, when he died in a car accident, on the night of 3 August 1964.
